PEDRO ZUBIZARRETA
Pedro Zubizarreta Puente, was born on December 23, 1946 in Vernejo, Cabezón de la Sal municipality, Cantabria, Spain. Since he was a fantastic and incorrigible child, he made drawing as a means to strengthen his identity and communication, the result of the misunderstanding of an introverted but daring personality, who already then showed a clear inclination towards the arts, and already these with his imagination, emotion, reason and sensitivity will dedicate his life.
His childhood and adolescence were always close to his affable grandfather Adolfo and the much loved uncle Quino "el mancu", (the rakemen of Cos), rock artisans of yokes, albarcas and carved dalle antlers, ... man of the mountain, taciturn , melancholic and silent like the perennial morrina that moistens the valley of peace and restless the soul, mountain people (non-Castilian Cantabrians) like the chestnut tree and strong as caginonas. From them he learns the force of life-nature, the sensibility of touch on wood, the feeling of the spirit of the mountains and the forests of hidden superstitions, that Zubizarreta will keep for life as an ancient Celtic god who strengthens his existence.
In adolescence, he impirically made painting manners, modeling portraits in clay and paper, he began as an apprentice in ornamental carving in wood, at the age of 18 his teacher Esteban (from Cos too) allowed him to start sculpting sculpture. religioas, in which he experiences the volume or third dimension that makes him understand the sculpture. This trade will serve as sustenance and define him as a sculptor
.
He is 21 years old and presents his first exhibition at the old Santander Chamber of Commerce, portraits and wooden sculpture. Concluding this, he traveled to Barcelona and between 1969 and 1974 he carried out studies of Fine Arts: artistic drawing, painting, muralism, ceramics and sculpture as a specialty. Participate in several group exhibitions in this city. In 1975 he moved to Madrid where he continued with studies of artistic drawing and anatomy, and the different techniques of engraving.
He works on all the other techniques, sculpture in which he tries to simplify school classicism with cubism. In this city it will remain until 19983, from this year it will settle in Aztec lands. Before leaving, he had other trips within the national territory and outside of it, other cities where he lives for short periods, the search for other cultural experiences with different aesthetic elements and everything that can enrich his spirit, open his imagination, realize his use. work and exhibitions.
By then he lived the humid and stormy Cantabria, which provides him with mysticism, creative sensitivity and the magical prehistoric aesthetics of Altamira of the wet green, blue and purple colors that he will carry in his palette forever. Catalonia is an art study, the interest in learning about life the color of the Mediterranean blue. Castilla, the sobriety of the black-mourning and royal yellow of the wheat fields. Andalusia, the natural anarchy of lyrical colors and baroque spirituality. London, from literature nebula daffodil yellow daffodil and red bus. Holland, white of the zinc tulip. Germany, with Aryan irony of autumnal reds, browns and oranges. Italy, with ancient Roman frescoes and Venetian reds. Greece, stone indigo blue. Colombia, Peru and Ecuador of Andean and colonial colors, marijuana greens, orange, sky blue and bright pink bougainvillea without shadows. China of Mao reds, golden yellows Mandarin without perspective. Africa of primitive ebony black graphism. Use, from impersonal acrylics to aegemonic pistol. Mexico, multicultural and multicolored, pregnant with magic and mystery. In this country he resides from 1983 to 2019, becoming a naturalized Mexican in 2002. In it he draws, engraves, paints, sculpts, installs, writes and develops projects of a social and cultural nature, ... syncretic amalgam of three schools, the Spanish of canons and teaching classical, the Mexican of popular history and the contemporary - international of evolution.
